Frequently Asked Questions About Mission Peak

What are Sunday services like?

Mission Peak’s Sunday services typically include the following: music, a children’s story, sharing of joys and concerns, singing of hymns, readings, and a sermon. We suggest that you come at least three times to get some idea of what our congregation is like.

What should my children and I wear to this church?

We are an informal group. Wear what feels comfortable to you.

Is there child care/Sunday school during church?

Infant, toddler and preschool care is available in the nursery during services. Children are part of the adult service through the opening hymn and story for all ages. Kindergarten through 7th grade children then go to grouped Religious Education classes for the rest of the service. The 8th through 12th grade Youth Group alternate meeting at this time every other week.

If my child doesn’t separate well, can my child stay with me during the service?

Your child is always welcome to stay with you during the worship service.

Are all people welcome in this congregation?

We welcome all people who share our values, regardless of race, age, gender or sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural heritage, social status, or physical ability.

Are there people in the congregation who hold beliefs different from mine?

Yes. Unitarian Universalists affirm a diversity of religious ideas and support spiritual development guided by freedom, reason, and conscience.

Do you folks believe in God?

Some of us do and some of us don’t. We support each person’s path to their spirituality. God is viewed differently by many people. Some believe in a personal God, others in a spirit who sets in motion the laws of the universe. God is unknowable, a mystery. Many of us are here to define for ourselves what God is.

How do I meet other people? How do I get involved?

Attend a service. Stay for coffee and conversation following the service. Join a Small Group Ministry group. Give some thought to whether you prefer to meet new people in social- or work-related activities; we offer both options. For example, you can join the Peak Performers choir or attend a potluck dinner, enroll in an adult religious education class, or join any number of committees to work on specific projects that match your skills/interests. For more information, contact our minister.

If I have a Joy or Concern that I want read during the Joys and Concerns part of the service what do I do?

Please write it in the Joys and Concerns book by the front door before the service starts.
