This Week on the Peak

This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
August 16, 2017

My name is Colleen Arnold and I’ve done the scheduling for the Sunday Service Team for about a year now. When we gather on Sundays, you see a welcoming environment, cushioned chairs, hymnals, a big sign telling you visitors where we are, and a decorated worship area. Afterwards, you might enjoy some treats or some coffee. Then it all gets cleaned up, since we share the space with the Methodist Church. The Sunday Service Team consists of about 40 individuals who volunteer to make this happen every Sunday.
Setting up, taking down, bringing goodies, making coffee – these are all efforts that make our Sunday Service a welcoming place. We always need more help, and we especially need volunteers right now for take down. It’s really too big a job for one person, but two or three people helping each other make it quick and easy. For those new to our congregation, it’s a great way to become involved, to meet other members, and it’s an especially good way for a whole family to give back to the community. Please contact me at  colleenag@sbcglobal.net and let me know how you’d like to help.

Thank you!

This Sunday’s Service:
Eclipses Come! Are You Prepared for Darkness
Life is not always sunny. We will look at darkness and how prepared we are for the experience.

Leading the service will be Jackie Porter and Worship Associate Allysson McDonald.  Music will be provided by Jo Ann Schriner.

Niles Rummage Sale: Volunteers and Donations Still Needed!
Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to help with our rummage sale at the Niles Flea Market on Saturday, August 26, and Sunday, August 27. This annual event draws tens of thousands of people to the Niles area at the end of every August, and will be a great chance to raise some much-needed funds for Mission Peak UU while meeting new people in the community. The location of our sale will once again be the lot located at 37753 Niles Blvd., courtesy of Lorna Jaynes and Bruce Cates.

To make it a success, we still need your help with the following:

o Help setting up: Friday, August 25, starting at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday morning, starting at 7:00 a.m. (early birds wanted–coffee provided!)
o Help staffing the booth: We need people to volunteer any time from Saturday 7:30 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you can volunteer for even an hour or two, it would be greatly appreciated and help other volunteers get a much-needed break.
o Help closing down: Starting at 4:30 Sunday, we need people to help pack up and move off-site our items that did not sell, taking them to Goodwill or other donation sites. If you have a vehicle and would be willing to take a carload (or two), please volunteer for this! Last year what was left was mostly boxes of clothing and household items, so any size vehicle could work.
o Donations: We still need donations of clean and gently used furniture, household items, clothing, sports and camping equipment, vintage treasures, kids’ items, and more. Please make sure any items you want to donate are in good, clean, usable condition. We are asking that donations be dropped off at the sale site on Friday, August 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. If you cannot drop the items off at that time, please make arrangements with Lisa Newstrom in advance
Note: We will not be able to accept broken items, expired items (such as car seats), undergarments, mattresses, VHS tapes, or non-children’s books. We cannot accept broken furniture or items that require more than two people to move them.

o Miscellaneous items to borrow: We still need to borrow some items to display our wares. If you have a portable clothing rack or lightweight shelves you could lend us, please let us know. We will also need the temporary use of a few pop-up canopies for shade, and a number of folding tables, and clean tarps.
.

Please contact Lisa Newstrom as soon as possible if you can help with any of the above. LMNewstrom@gmail.com or 607-339-5573.
