This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
August 30, 2017

Hi! My name is Allysson McDonald.  My husband, Graham Bell, and I have been members of Mission Peak UU Congregation for nearly 21 years! I easily keep track because our eldest, Greg, had just had his third birthday before we moved to the Bay Area. Last week he turned 24 and got married on his birthday! The wedding celebration is to take place sometime next year. Graham and I are originally from Canada and have been in the US for almost 29 years (in California the whole time). We have another son, Douglas, who just started his second year at UC Merced.

Graham and I jumped in and joined Mission Peak right away when we got to Fremont, and have been active in many roles. Graham is the facilities committee chair these days and I’m working on re-starting a Social Justice Committee that needs a few new members.

The Social Justice members organize the Common Read (check below for dates and titles!), coordinate the Second Sunday Share the Plate program, and offer programs and actions related to LGBTQ, mental health, racial justice, economic justice, and other justice issues. We honor a local Courageous Love Hero annually in February and we provide service opportunities for members and friends of Mission Peak.

Our congregation’s Mission Statement says we “work for a nonviolent, just, and sustainable world.”  I hope you’ll join one of these activities as a way of living our mission, and if you are really interested in making a difference, please contact me about joining our committee!

This Sunday’s Service:
FAKE NEWS

Fake news is nothing new. We can trace its history for at least four thousand years. It is evil, and we must combat it. Our fourth Unitarian Universalist principle is the basis of detecting fake news. Our other principles tell us we must do something about it. I will recount time-tested methods of detecting fake news, and encourage us all to use Truth in combating its evil effects.

Leading the service will be Paul K. Davis and Worship Associate Megan McMillen.  Music will be provided by Jo Ann Schriner.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Movie Night
Sept 9th 6 p.m. @Cole Hall

We will be kicking off our RE year with a movie night of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone(PG). This event is open to all our Mission Peak families, friends and those we don’t know yet, so please invite other families to come too!  We will have information about our RE and church programs available. Bring a blanket and a pillow to be comfy. Concessions will be for sale.

Please contact
cayre@mpuuc.org with any questions or if you would like to help with the event.
