This Week on the Peak

This Week on the Peak – Wednesday, February 15

This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
February 15, 2017

My name is Cara Madden-Watson and I am the Board Secretary. One of my favorite things about Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation is the multitude of ways

in which people can get involved. You can come to the Sunday services, volunteer to set up and take down chairs at a service or make coffee. If you want to get your hands dirty, you can volunteer to work in the garden. There are many committees that always need dedicated members and fundraisers and events that need to be created and coordinated. And our children’s RE program is always looking for people who love to teach. There really is something for everyone!

Besides serving on the Board, the way I work to serve Mission Peak is through music. I sing and play drums in MPUUC’s very own rock band – the Peak Rocks. I feel lucky to play with amazing musicians – Mark Kahn, Paul Kwinn, Taunya Gren, and David Lefkort.  We work with our minister, Jeremy, to find songs that reflect the topic of the Sunday service. We seek to find songs that are fun to listen and sing along to, but also inspire people and add to the understanding of the day’s topic. We play on most 3rd Sundays during the year. We will be playing this upcoming Sunday, 2/19 where we will be exploring the topic of the stories that we hold on to. Come join us!

This Sunday’s Service:
Of Stardust and Stories

As we learned from the 2015 smash hit movie Inside Out, the stories we hold on to are essential to who we are. Come explore the stories you continue to revisit (and some you may be ready to move on from) in this fun and meaningful intergenerational service inspired by Inside Out.
Leading the service will be Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel and Worship Associate DRE Shawn Stevens.
Music will be provided by Peak Rocks.
As a courtesy to fellow attendees, if you have an active cold, please consider wearing a protective mask.  Thank you!
Information about the FUMC Event Center
The Methodists have been exploring ways to use the open space on the FUMC campus and last fall their congregation approved plans to build an Event Center on the eastern side of the property, approximately where our parking lot is right now.  During the process of deciding on an Event Center FUMC has solicited Mission Peak’s input and has been very intentional about considering our feedback and requests.  After the service on February 19, FUMC will be holding an information session about the Event Center for Mission Peak in Cole Hall, including specific location information and construction timetables.  Please come after the service on 2/19 to get more information and ask questions.  We are very appreciative that the Methodists are willing to come and discuss this project with us.  If you have any questions please contact Melissa Holmes at 510-299-2822.
