This Week on the Peak

This Week on the Peak – Wednesday, March 8, 2017

This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
March 8, 2017

Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel
As we heard from our canvass co-chairs Natalie Campbell and DeAnna Alm this last Sunday, our canvass season has begun.  And while it can be hard to get super excited about our annual fundraising campaign, I hope you will find a way this year, because for so many reasons it feels extra important.
Along with the changes Mission Peak UU will undergo in the next year, it will also continue to be a vital space in our community for those who are threatened by the policies of our new administration.  While we have long been the shelter in the storm for those fighting to be seen, heard and valued, it has never been more true than today.  So as you consider your on-going financial commitment to Mission Peak UU, I hope you will consider all the many ways that your pledge will end up making this world a better place.
And, because I want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of this Sunday’s worship service, I remind you to set your clock an hour ahead before you go to sleep on Saturday evening.

That is all for now.  Yours in the unfolding,

Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel
Minister of Mission Peak UU Congregation
Fremont, CA.

It is Canvass Season!
We will be having a one on one canvass this year. In the next few weeks, you will be contacted by a member of the Mission Peak Canvass Committee. Hopefully you will be able to find time in your schedule to meet together, and discuss your hopes and dreams for Mission Peak’s future. The Pledge that you decide on will help fund those ideas. We are encouraging everyone to make MPUUC one of their top giving priorities this year. We are the place that welcomes the stranger, we are the place whose beacon of hope offers a sanctuary in the storm that surrounds us. We make up the place where we search for truth and meaning and where we think about how to become the better people that this world needs, now and always. We create the place where our children learn to welcome the different, not to fear it. Here is the place where we lift each other up in times of difficulty and sorrow, and where we rejoice in each other’s happiness. Please think about what Mission Peak means to you, and how you can help us to continue shining brightly. Thank you!

This Sunday’s Service:
The Power of Community

Now more than ever we need each other. We need the power of community. But how do we build community? How do we live peacefully and productively with those who seem to have so little in common with us? This Sunday, we will explore what it means to be in community with others and what benefits this can bring to the individual and to society.

Leading the service will be Ilze Duarte and Worship Associate Allysson McDonald.  Music will be
provided by Eric Niessner.
As a courtesy to fellow attendees, if you have an active cold, please consider wearing a protective mask.  Thank you!
Share the Plate for March
This Sunday, March 12th, we will have student performers from Irvington High School’s Soul Speaks program come visit our congregation for Share the Plate Sunday. Soul Speaks is the student chapter of the nationally acclaimed literacy project Youth Speaks. Founded in 1996, Youth Speaks has long championed a local, national and increasingly global movement of young people picking up pens and stepping proudly onto stages. They believe that literacy is a need, not a want.

Youth Speaks produces local and national youth poetry slams, festivals and reading series, alongside a comprehensive slate of arts in education programs during the school day, in the after- school hours and on weekends. To find out more about this organization, please go to
Youth Speaks  If you would like to contribute to this cause, please make your check out to”Irvington High” and “Soul Speaks” in the memo line. Thank you!

Last month’s Share the Plate visitor, Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center in Union City – raised $642. Thank you so much for your generosity. If you have a local non profit that you would like to see highlighted on Share the Plate Sunday, please contact Natalie Campbell at nataliehcampbell@yahoo.com
