This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
March 15, 2017

I’m Drew Wilson, and I currently am on the Leadership Development committee and serve as chair of the Worship and Choir committees. I moved to Fremont and found Mission Peak just as it was getting organized, and have been involved ever since, including two stints as president.

What really impresses me about Mission Peak is how much we do to make the world a better place, especially considering our relatively small size. Not just through justice work and community support projects, though those are very important, but also, as we say each Sunday morning, by helping each of us become the best people we can be. The ripples from all these activities can be world changing, and are big reason I am so fond of Mission Peak.

I have witnessed a lot of members blossoming from their involvement here. Mission Peak provides many opportunities to spread your wings in a loving, trusting environment. In my case, did you know that I was once terrified of speaking in public, and never dreamed I’d assist, much less lead, worship services? But hear I am, chairing the worship associates, assisting with services, and even leading them once in a while.

I appreciate the many folks over the years that have given so much to make Mission Peak the great place it is today. And if you would like to assist with worship services, develop your leadership talents, or sing with a great little choir, have I got a place for you!

Drew

A Beacon of Hope. A Sanctuary in the Storm

Canvass Season has begun! You will be contacted by a member of the Canvass team in the next few weeks to set up a meeting time to discuss the future of our congregation. There are many changes happening in our community. One of them is the loss of our beloved DRE, Shawn Snavely. This Sunday, March 19th is his last Sunday at Mission Peak. We already have an active search committee set up to find his replacement. The amount of money that we collect in pledges will affect how much we can offer a new DRE.

Mission Peak began with a children’s playgroup. The children’s Director of Religious Education has always been one of the most respected positions in our congregation. Canvass season is a chance for us to really take a look at who we are and who we want to become. Our Sunday School classes are full, our youth group has blossomed into a thriving group of enthusiastically  UU kids. The future is bright. Together, we can keep up the momentum!

This Sunday, Megan McMillan will give a pulpitorial about her experience with her daughters at Mission Peak. Please come out to hear what she has to share.

Congregational Meeting March 26

With Jeremy’s departure from Mission Peak, part of the process to find a new minister is to hire an interim minister who will be here until we call a new settled minister. Per our Congregational By-Laws, the Congregation must vote on whether to hire an interim minister for 1 year or 2 years. This decision plays a very important role in how we will approach the process to find a settled minister. There will be a Congregational meeting on March 26, in two weeks, to vote on the length of the interim minister. Please plan to attend this meeting and help determine how we move forward with our ministerial search.
