This Week on the Peak

This Week on the Peak

Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA

The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!

August 15, 2018

This Sunday’s Service:
Sacred Listening
“There is something sacred about listening to another human being, really listening, with no agenda other than being with them.  Rev. Barbara Meyers will share this practice and insights she has had while listening to people on the streets of San Francisco since last October, a practice that she plans to soon introduce to Fremont.”

Rev. Barbara F. Meyers will lead the service and assisting will be Jen King.  Mark Kahn will provide our music.

My name is Steve Wallcave and I am your president elect. I am excited about taking a larger leadership role again at Mission Peak UU. (I was our first president.) I live in Union City with my wife, Kathy. We have two grown children (Sarah and Joseph) who grew up in the congregation and now live in San Jose. We also have an older daughter Tasha and two granddaughters and a grandson. I enjoy listening to all types of music and reading, especially science fiction. I am an electrical engineer.
I am a member of Mission Peak UU’s Executive Team along with our president, past president, and minister. Each member of the Executive Team chairs one of our 3 councils. The board changed the councils this year, as detailed in our July board minutes, and highlighted in our
July 18th Week on the Peak news from the board section.
This year I am the chair of the Ministry Council which now focuses on the internal ministry of our church. The Ministry Council members include a representative from the following committees: Pastoral Associates, Worship Associates, CaYRE (Childrens and Youth Religious Education), Adult Religious Education, Music and Choir. I expect the Fellowship Committee and Small Group Ministry to be added to the council soon as well. Our first Ministry Council meeting will be Aug 28th at 7:30PM. The main goal of our council meeting is to foster communication between its committees and between the Ministry Council and the other councils as well as with the board. Please feel free to contact me if you want to get involved in one of our committees or for more information.
I look forward to an exciting year together.
Steve

Don’t hesitate to reach out and thank you!

Rev. Jo Green will be arriving in the Bay area soon to get the keys to her new apartment in Union City and get settled. She will then be off for a week to the UUA’s training for interim ministers. She still hasn’t received final word on when her household belongings will be delivered by the moving company, but could use a few people to help her get set up in her new home. If you’re able to help Rev. Jo unpack and put away her household items later this week (hopefully) please email
transitionteam@mpuuc.org
and let us know the dates/times you are available.
She will officially start as our interim minister after her return from training and will be meeting with church leaders and groups. Rev. Jo will lead her first service with us on Sunday, September 9, our annual Gathering of the Waters ceremony. Please join us to welcome her at the service and at the potluck luncheon that will follow!
If you’d like to read more about Rev. Jo, go to the Mission Peak website at

Communication Workshop on Saturday, September 29

The Rev. Cat Cox, a community minster with long experience helping congregations with community building, living in right relations and compassionate communication, will be coming to Mission Peak on
Saturday September 29th in Cole Hall. She will lead us in a workshop on how to communicate effectively with love and compassion, and other skills necessary to build the sort of community we’d all like Mission Peak to be. Some details are still being worked out, but the event will basically run from
9:00 am to 4:00 pm with a break for lunch. I anticipate some small charge to cover incidentals, but thanks to the generous folks who contributed to Share the Plate this past
Sunday, plus some outside funding, we have raised most of the money to cover Cat’s fee!
If you weren’t able to contribute
on Sunday, but would still like to, simply drop a check made out to “Mission Peak” in the collection plate over the next two Sundays with “Communication Workshop” written in the memo line. Any money left over after the event will be used for future community building and leadership training.
Thanks, and hope to see you there.
