This Sunday’s Service:
Our Covenant With One Another
As a congregation in Unitarian Universalism, we covenant on how to be with one another and how to treat one another. This Sunday we will enter into covenant with one another, members young and old and ministers alike. Share in this special opportunity to commit to what you believe your faith means to you.
Rev. Jo Green will lead the service and assisting will be Worship Associate Megan McMillen. Peak Performers will provide our music.

Children & Youth Religious Education (CaYRE)
Our children have started exploring our neighboring faiths with a few close to home. The RE classrooms are a great place for our children to explore and grow. Our classrooms are only made possible by our awesome volunteers. We are still in need of a few teachers this fall, especially the first week of October. Please check out our teaching schedule

Save the Date:
Black & White Gala –
Our annual Black & White Gala will be Saturday, November 3 from 6:00-10:00pm. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It’s a great opportunity for you to dress up (if you’d like) and support Mission Peak by participating in our service auction, buying unique and handmade items at our boutique, and testing your luck by participating in our basket raffle. All while enjoying yummy sweet and savory snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Please put the Black & White Gala on your calendar, invite friends, plan your outfit (our theme this year is Mardi Gras), and start thinking of items you can donate to the auction and make for the boutique. It will be a great event and a TON of fun, but we can’t do it without you!! Tickets are now on sale. Tickets are $25 each or you can reserve a table of eight for $200.
It’s also time to start figuring out what you can donate for the event. We need:
- Auction Items: Services only – no physical items. If you want to donate something, but don’t know what…ask Jen King and she’ll help you brainstorm ideas. The best idea is to offer to share what you enjoy doing! If you drive, offer transportation. If you garden, offer to beautify someone’s garden. If you like to bake, bake goodies for auction day or for a future date. If you like to cook, offer to cook a meal, deliver a meal, or share a meal. If you like picnics, offer to gather all the fixings for a dream picnic for 2. If you are good with hammer and nails, offer to help build or repair something. If you like to do a craft, offer to teach it to someone else or create a unique personalized item for someone. If you love kids, offer to babysit and give parents a much needed night out. If you have an eye for organizing, offer to help organize closets. If you own a truck, offer to haul stuff. If you love animals, offer to pet sit. If you have a talent, offer to share it. If you have a skill, offer to teach it.
- Items for the Boutique:- Homemade items – jewelry, knitted items, pottery, art, baked goods, bookmarks, stained glass, cross stitch, etc. We will be having two workshops – one on Sunday, October 7 @ 1:00 and one on Saturday, October 20 @ 3:00. We will provide instructions, tools, and all necessary supplies (including snacks and libations) – we just need energetic and eager workers. Please put those dates on your calendar and join us!
- Themed Baskets: You can shop and put together a themed basket or donate $$ for someone else to put together a basket. We also need volunteers to sell raffle tickets the night of the event.
- Sweet & Savory Snacks – We need both sweet and savory goodies donated for the buffet for the event. Items do not need to be homemade. Please sign-up to donate if you can.
- Beverages – We need donations of beer, wine, champagne, Martinellis, soda, etc. to serve at the event.
- Volunteers – We need lots and lots of volunteers for the day of the event. Sign-ups will be available every Sunday after services.
- Bidders & Buyers – Please plan to attend this fun event which provides not only finances for our congregation, but fellowship opportunities for the whole year. Please invite friends and family who you’d like to introduce to Mission Peak UU or who you believe would support our mission of inclusiveness and social justice. The more the merrier.

Share the Plate
: On the second Sunday every month we donate our offering to a local non-profit. In October
(October 14) we will Share the Plate with the Parkland Voter Movement
(PVM). PVM was created to honor the youth of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and so many others whose voices have been silenced, informed and amplified.Youth are supported to (pre)register other teens (16-19) to vote, then encourage those to register others and finally for all to vote. This grass-roots non-partisan effort is supported by adult volunteers and organizations such as the League of Women Voters.

In September we shared the plate with the Blue Goose Bus Fund. Thank you to everyone who donated. We’ve received a wonderful thank you:
Just want to send you a quick note, letting you know that we received the check from MPUUC for $597 for the Blue Goose Bus Fund donation. (We send out our donation acknowledgement letters at the beginning of the following month, so early October.) We are getting into our busy season with the field trips for the children, so it is very timely, and appreciated. The people in your congregation are so kind and houghtful. It was quite a pleasure to meet and spend time with all of you. I hope things are going well with the new minister.

On the third Sunday monthly the Sandwich Squad could use a hand – or actually 2 – join a friendly group in the kitchen by Cole Hall after the service and
help make sandwiches
for the homeless. Check with Don Ramie or Dan Hestor for more information on the Squad. Kids welcome with supervision.

The Tri-City Interfaith Council (tcicouncil.weebly.com) is a grass-roots organization bringing together people of diverse religious beliefs from Fremont, Newark, and Union City (California). Rev. Barbara Meyers and Paul K. Davis are members. Join in!

Coming Up This Weekend: the Communication Workshop
The Rev. Cat Cox will be coming to Mission Peak on Saturday, September 29th to facilitate a workshop on building a nurturing, joyous and loving community through Compassionate, Non-violent Communication and living in right relationship with one another. In short, tools that allow us to become the best people we can be, so Mission Peak can become the best Congregation it can be.
Mission Peak already has many wonderful qualities, but this workshop will help us make it an even better place to worship, grow, learn and thrive. The day will start with coffee and light refreshments at 9:30 am, with the workshop starting promptly at 10:00 am. There will be a time set aside to eat a brown bag lunch that you bring from home, and the workshop will end at 4 pm. There is no charge to attend, BUT be sure to bring a brown bag lunch for yourself.

Calling All Committee Chairs!
Leadership Development Workshop
On behalf of the Leaders Development Committee (including Ilze Duarte and Jen King), we thank you for all the time you donate to head a committee. We hope you will be able to attend our first workshop to learn some nuts and bolts information about topics such as being an effective committee chair, communicating with the congregation and board, charters, as well as practical information such as how to schedule an event, how to publicize your event, and more. We will also
have time at the end to brainstorm ideas on what future workshop topics you are interested in. If you are not able to attend, please send someone on your committee to attend. We think you won’t regret it!

At a time when racial justice, environmental justice, and economic justice are seen as issues competing for time, attention, and resources,
Justice on Earth
explores the ways in which the three are intertwined. Those on the margins are invariably those most affected by climate disaster and environmental toxins. The book asks us to recognize that our faith calls us to long-haul work for justice for our human kin, for the Earth and for all life. It invites us to look at our current challenges through a variety of different perspectives, offers tools to equip us for sustained engagement, and proposes multiple pathways for follow-up action.
