Loving the Hell Out of this World

On June 28, 1969 the gay community – which is to say, drag queens, the transgender community, gay men, lesbians, sex workers, and homeless youth – fought back. The Stonewall Rebellion emanated from the outrage that united different people in common cause with a singular message: they were done being made to feel shame and fear for something deserved to feel pride. They fought the police – and the Mafia – and worked in solidarity with the goal being treated with respect and having their worth, dignity, equality and pride recognized.
