This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
December 11, 2019

Hello

I’m Kathi Bayne.  I joined Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation one year ago, with the support of my husband Omar. We are deeply appreciative of the opportunity to meet and enjoy so many new people as well as participate in congregation activities. Working with the Justice Council has been especially rewarding for me. One of our Council’s goals is helping with the UU directive to “UU the Vote” and encourage a large increase in participation in the 2020 election.

Last year, some of us joined the Youth Voter Movement (YVM – previously Parkland Voter Movement) to  register high school students in the Fremont Tri-City area. Together we registered over 3000 local high school students to vote!  Our  Congregation shared our plate with YVM and helped the organization obtain a UU grant.

YVM is asking for our help and support again. Registration efforts will start in Fremont and Tri-Cities in late January and early February 2020.

You can sign up with your name and email address, after Sunday service if you are interested in volunteering for two hour high school registration shifts. The organization will get in touch with you regarding availability. These events were the most fun and most gratifying experience I have had registering people to vote!

YVM would like to help others to register high school and possibly college students. We would really like to hear from you if you are aware of any UU congregations or other groups that might like to participate in this highly successful undertaking. You and your ideas would be greatly appreciated at our Civic Engagement Committee.

It’s that time of year again where our children and youth will share their talents with us in a holiday pageant. Please come celebrate with our incredible young people as they present their version of the Nativity Story.

MPUUC Children and Youth will lead the service and assisting will be Rev. Jo Green. Mark Kahn will provide our music.
Calendar of Kindness

This Calendar of Kindness was posted in a group I am in and I wanted to share it with you.

The Advent of Kindness – what a wonderful way to celebrate this month.

Parent’s Night Out

Want a night away from your kids? Haven’t been on a date in decades? Need to run errands without interruption? Come leave your children with Rev. Jo, myself, and some incredible volunteers! We will be providing food, a movie, and some other activities to occupy your children while you do whatever you need to do! We will be charging a small fee of $25 a kid with a discounted rate of $20 for MPUUC kids! That being said we do not turn away anyone for lack of funds! Contact Shawn at dre@mpuuc.org to discuss!

Upcoming Events

After the holidays we all need something to look forward to and the revival of Mission Peak’s Talent Showcase (a.k.a. Sunday Salon) is just the thing.  The T alent Showcase will be held in Cole Hall on Saturday, February 8 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Do you tell jokes? Recite poems? Sing? Act? Play an instrument? Perform magic? If so, we want you to sign up to share your talent with us.  Kids are welcome and encouraged to participate. Sign-ups will start Sunday, December 1 after the service.  Accompanists are available upon request and Knuti Van Hoven is available as a stage/voice coach (for a small donation to MPUUC). This is a great chance to share what you love with the rest of Mission Peak.  We will even have space set aside to display physical artwork such as paintings, drawings, pottery, knitting, mosaics, etc. We hope that many of you will choose to participate.
Board Briefs

Megan McMillan has had to step down from the Ministerial Search Committee. The board selected Annette Breingan to take her place. Annette was also on our first Ministerial Search Committee which picked Rev. Chris Schriner as our candidate. The congregation then voted him to be our called minister. We are happy Annette agreed to join the search committee.

Our next board meeting is on Dec 19th at 7:15PM at Allysson’s house.

For complete board minutes of previous meeting go to the members only section of our web site at mpuuc.org/about-us/members-only
