Greetings fellow Mission Peakers and friends. My name is Drew Wilson and I now serve as co-treasurer along with Holly Ito. I’ve served in many positions at Mission Peak since joining the Organization and Management (OM) team almost 24 years ago, but never as co-treasurer, so here I am!
As you probably know, Mission Peak UU Congregation has been a big part of my life since I moved to Fremont. I was raised in a UU family, and attended several UU churches before moving here and discovered the group trying to start what is now Mission Peak. To me, it was clear that Fremont needed a UU church, and it seemed like an exciting project to be part of. It was, and a lot of work as well, but it has come to mean so much more to me than that.
Mission Peak has proven to be a safe place for people to explore and grow. I’ve watched as many members blossomed through their involvement with Mission Peak, discovering latent talents, improving existing talents, and learning how best to give to and receive from a loving community. I too have grown in many ways, and can’t thank all of you enough for the help you’ve given me on my own journey.
Now that we have developed a solid foundation, it is time to share our blessings with the community. A big part of that is just letting people know what we have to offer, which several recent initiatives, such as more social media presence, and more involvement in community events, are beginning to address. I am very excited about what I see in Mission Peak’s future and the many adventures that await all of us as we continue to become the best people, and church, we can be.
Drew Wilson

This Sunday’s Service:
Who Do We Think We Are? Engaging the Hidden Diversity of Class
UUs tend to think of ourselves as mostly white (true), formally well-educated (more UUs have college degrees than do members of other religious denominations), and more affluent than most (maybe not quite as true as we think). But what if these assumptions, even though grounded in reality, actually serve to conceal congregants whose lives don’t fit this stereotype? What wisdom might we gain by exploring and welcoming our existing diversity?.
Leading the service will be
Millie Phillips and Worship Associate Ilze Duarte. Music will be provided by Eric Niessner.

Summer Second Sunday collections for Mission Peak
Over the summer our Second Sunday collections benefit specific programs at Mission Peak. The two remaining summer collections will be for the following programs:
July 9: Sandwich Squad. We do not have any budget for the Sandwich Squad other than what we collect during special collections and any donations people make go directly to the Sandwich Squad. Your donations go directly into the cost of making sandwiches for Fremont organizations that help those with nutrition needs. Thanks in advance for your contributions.
August 13: Social Media. As part of our community outreach we need to make sure we have a robust social media presence. While some social media is free, many others like Meet Up and targeted advertising are not.
This coming Sunday, July 9, is the Second Sunday collection for our Sandwich Squad. If you plan to write a check, make it out to Mission Peak and include the description “Sandwich Squad” on the memo line so we know that this is for the special collection.

We Need More Campers!!!
We need more of you to join us for our annual camping trip!! This year we will be camping
July 28-30 at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Glen Ellen. If you are new to camping or this is your first time camping with kids – this is a great way to give it a try. We’ve got veteran campers with lots of gear to loan and it’s always easier to camp with others and share the set-up, take down, cooking, and clean-up duties. It’s a beautiful location (wine country anyone?) and a ton of fun. We just need more people to sign up. Feel free to bring family and friends with you. Dogs are allowed. The cost is $10 per person or $25 per family. If cost is an issue we can work around it. If you’re interested in signing up or have any questions, please find Jen King after the service on
July 9 or 23 or contact her at 510-299-2825 or
jenking@alumnae.mtholyoke.edu.
