This Week on the Peak

This Week on the Peak – Wednesday, February 1

This Week on the Peak
Mission Peak UU – Fremont, CA
The Home of Liberal Religion in the Tri-Cities and Beyond!
February 1, 2017

For a month I have been talking up an exciting event that is finally upon us.  As I talked about Sunday in my sermon (video of which can be found below) the Tri City Interfaith Council is hosting its fourth annual Interfaith Harmony Day this Saturday.
Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel
The even is split into two parts:
For the first half you will be able to explore booths hosted by many of the different faith homes in our community. In the second half of the event we will be split up into diverse small groups to have interfaith dialogue with our neighbors and new friends.

It is a truly special event made all the more special by the incredible diversity we are blessed to live amongst.  I personally cant think of a better response this weekend to the times we live in than participating in this bridge building event.

Interfaith Harmony Day will take place this year on Saturday, February 4 and be held at Niles Discovery Church from 1 – 3 PM.  Admission to this family friendly experience is free, so invite a neighbor and bring a friend.  And don’t forget to stop by the Mission Peak UU booth to say hello!

Home Warming Coordinator Needed

For years Mission Peak UU Congregation has participated as a partner church in Abode’s home warming program. Partner churches provide funds to offset costs, such as security deposit or last months rent, and contribute household furnishings and other necessities to families Abode Services is re-housing. Home warming meetings take place near five corners in Fremont on a monthly basis.  Over the past couple of years Andrew Dean was our representative. In his absence we need a new representative to attend the monthly meetings and pass along information about needs to the congregation, and coordinate our contributions. Please contact Allysson McDonald at
allyssonmcdonald@gmail.com
if you can volunteer for this position so we can continue our participation in the program.

First Ever GSA for 55+

GSAs (Gay-Straight Alliances) are usually found in high schools and colleges. They’re formed in order to create a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and (LGBT) youth and their non-LGBT allies. Well, the City of Fremont and LIFE Eldercare are breaking new ground by forming the first ever Senior GSA! This one will be for older adults who identify as LGBT and anyone else who supports LGBT equality. The theme for this group is ‘Action for Happiness’.

Action for Happiness is a movement of people from all walks of life who are taking action in their personal lives, communities and schools to help create a happier and more caring society. Our actions and choices can affect our happiness. What makes us happy has less to do with our money or possessions and more to do with our attitudes and relationships with other people.

Each month we’ll chat about one of the keys to happier living and then plan ways to incorporate it into our lives. The 10 keys are Giving, Relating, Exercising, Appreciating, Trying Out, Direction, Resilience, Emotion, Acceptance, and Meaning. Join us!

Every 2nd Thursday of every month from 11 am – noon.  at the Fremont Senior Center. 40086 Paseo Padre Pkwy, Fremont,  For more info call Patricia (510) 574-2091

Hosted by Life Elder Care.
