Community Ministry: Celebrating Ministry Beyond Our Congregations
Celebrate Community Ministry! MPUUC has two Affiliated Community Ministers and many seminarians are now choosing to serve in the larger community rather than in the congregation/parish.
We celebrate ministry that extends the reach of our congregations and Unitarian Universalism beyond our doors. Community mental health, service in support of ministers themselves, hospice and hospital chaplaincy and more!
Rev. Benson, Rev. Meyers and Rev. Mertz will lead the service. Peak Performers will provide our music.

Rev. Jo Green will be joining us in August!
The Interim Minister Search team is pleased to announce that Mission Peak UU has signed a contract with Rev. Jo Green to be our next interim minister.
She is excited to begin her work with us, and the Interim Minister Search team has very high hopes about our upcoming time together.
Rev. Jo has a BA in Art History, an MS in Counseling Education, and received her M.Div from Starr King School for the Ministry in 2014.
Rev. Jo will be sending the congregation a video greeting later this summer, and we will also plan some “meet and greet” events once she has moved to the area. In the meantime, if you have questions, please feel free to contact a member of the Interim Minister Search Team – DeAnna Alm, Ilze Duarte, Valerie Stewart and Drew Wilson.

A few (last) words from Rev. Benson…
We’ve put much time and energy, dear ones, into trying new things, and attempting to change things that don’t work well or could function better. Two steps forward, one step back, one step forward, two back. It’s all part of the process, this interim ministry business.
Unitarian Universalism remains one of a few lifeboats in these trying times. Fremont needs a strong Unitarian Universalist presence. I leave you with some of the questions I raised when I began my ministry with you:
1) what have you yet to grieve and release?
2) how do you want to be with one another?
3) how do you want to be known?
4) where are your deep commitments and where is MPUUC among them?
I know your next interim, Rev. Jo Green, and you will work with open minds and hearts on improving the flow of information and communication issues. I believe you will work to resolve issues of conflict with care and integrity. You cannot do it alone, so take all the good help you can get.
Fremont needs a strong UU presence. There are many who need your lifeboat; let the larger community know you’re here and welcoming!

Goldmine Youth Leadership School
Goldmine Youth Leadership School is a week-long community building and training space for high school youth interested in leadership, activism, and spiritual growth. Goldmine 2018 will be at Edmonds UU Church, just north of Seattle, WA from July 7-12. The theme this year is “Help Heal the World!” The model is one of intentional community building created and nurtured by paying attention to and bringing forth what makes spiritually and socially conscious communities work.

New Worship Associates Needed!
The Worship Associates are starting a series of lay-led services this summer. From mid-June to mid-August all our services will be led and assisted by Worship Associates. We have all our worship leaders lined up but need more people to assist. Please consider joining our group. We are looking for individuals with a passion for high quality worship services, a willingness to learn, and a growing comfort with public speaking; who are reliable, will respond to communications in a timely manner, and will join and participate with a collaborative spirit. We extend this invitation to the youth as well. All new Worship Associates will receive training and will be welcome to remain in the group beyond the summer.
If you are interested, please attend the next Worship Associates meeting on June 3 at noon in the MPUUC office to find out more about what is involved in the work we do and how we work together. Attending this meeting is not a commitment to join the group. Hope to see you there.

Sidewalk Talk
Sidewalk Talk http://www.sidewalktalksf.com/ is an international program. Its mission is to nurture human connection by teaching and practicing heart-centered listening
in public spaces. By engaging a diverse and inclusive community of volunteers, our culture, relationships and world are transformed.
Rev. Barbara Meyers has, since last October, as part of her mental health community ministry, been a Sidewalk Talk volunteer every Thursday afternoon in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, where there is a high density of people from the streets hanging out or coming through to try to get services or respite.
Rev. Meyers will establish a branch of this program program in Fremont to nurture human connection and transform our community.
The home base will be Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, which will cover volunteers to the program under its volunteer liability insurance.
Our focus is on marginalized populations who are often
ignored, shunned, hurried along, turned away, and feared.
There are few times that these people are heard and accepted just as they are – and even more rarely that what they say is valued. We will be responsive, however, to whoever wishes to be heard.
Our proposed schedule is:
– Mid May: Invitations to gather the names of interested people
– Early to Mid June: A meeting or meetings to explain the effort and explore the possibilities
– June – July: Make connections. Get support from city leaders. Decide on location(s), times.
– July – August: Training and practice listening meetings.
– September: Begin Regular Listening. After listening there will be debriefing and feedback.

Annual Congregational Meeting
The Mission Peak UU Congregation annual meeting will be Sunday June 10, 2018, after the service. The tentative agenda will include voting on the minutes of previous Congregational Meetings, the 2018-2019 budget and a new slate of officers for the Board and the Leadership Development Team.

Service team!
Our services are held in a space that is transformed each
Sunday. There are a number of opportunities for you to get involved with making our space welcoming and worshipful.
With your involvement, chairs will be set up or put away; hymnals will be set on chairs or put back in the cabinet; people arriving will be greeted and handed an order of service; there will be coffee afterwards. So, what do you say? This is our shared religious home and we aim to do Sundays well!

MPUUC 2018 Summer Camp Out – June 15-17
Spring has sprung and Summer is right around the corner. This year’s Congregational Camp Out will be
June 15-17 at Del Valle Regional Park. We have room for up to 20 people. Tents only. Please contact Jen King for more information and to reserve your spot. Check in is anytime after
2:00 on Friday, and check-out is by
noon on Sunday (and yes, Sunday is Father’s Day). Cost is sliding scale not to exceed $25 per family.
Del Valle Regional Park, part of the East Bay Regional Park District, is located in a valley framed by oak-covered hills. The centerpiece of the park is a five-mile long lake, with all kinds of water-oriented recreation, surrounded by 4,316 acres of beautiful land for hiking, horseback riding, and nature study. Del Valle is also the eastern gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, 28 miles of scenic back country trail. The Livermore valley and its MANY wineries are also nearby.

Minister Emeritus’ Travels
Our Minister Emeritus, Rev. Chris Schriner, will be absent several Sundays due to speaking commitments and travel. May 27 he will preach at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Santa Rosa. He will fly to Denver June 8, speak at First Universalist Church of Denver June 10, and a Science Discussion Group June 12. Then on to General Assembly in Kansas City where he will take part in the new Poster Presentation program. Chris’ poster is titled, Ask yourself – Why Should Anyone Join Your Congregation? (And why should they stay?) He will return to Fremont around June 25.
