Come join us at 7PM on October 28th for a “What I Wish My Parents Knew” film screening and discussion. The event is at 2950 Washington Blvd, Fremont, CA in Cole Hall, at the top of the hill of the First United Methodist Church Campus.
“What I Wish My Parents Knew” is a 45-minute documentary film that explores the inner struggles of several children coping with silent battles against depression and anxiety. They bravely share their pain of living in crisis and express in great detail what they wish their parents and families would have known and how they could have helped.
“What I Wish My Parents Knew” addresses the situation of suicide in teenagers. It was created by a man who lost his 14-year-old son to suicide and hopes to help other parents and children avoid that tragic fate. It is being shown widely in the US and has gotten rave reviews when shown.
After watching the film, there will be a discussion facilitated by trained mental health workers where parents can ask questions, discuss their struggles, and more. By the end of the program, parents will have gained a better understanding of their children’s mental health and how to best support them.
People of all ages who may benefit from this event are welcome. While the film is especially targeted to parents of 12-18 year-old students, this evening’s event is especially for teachers and staff working in the greater Fremont area junior high and high schools. We encourage those who work with students to attend to gain an understanding of their children’s mental health and how to best support them.
