Matching Funds Available for Increases!
We are fortunate enough this year to have been given $15,000 to be used to match increased pledge amounts at a $2:$1 rate. That means that if you are able to increase your pledge by $100, MPUUC will have $300 added to its budget. If you are able to increase by $500, then MPUUC would have $1,500 more to fulfil its mission! While we are asking everyone to give what you can, we are making a special appeal to those in the first two rows of the chart to make an increase if possible.
From your minister, Rev. Greg Ward:
A decade ago Mission Peak made a bold proclamation. It was made to one another and to the city we serve. It was 2013 our Mission Statement – which we still use. Of the many I’ve read and the half dozen or so I’ve worked on, it feels – by far – the most compelling. But of all 126 words ratified that day, I think the first 6 were the most powerful: ‘The foundation of Mission Peak is Love.’
And there was a LOT to Love. Energy was high. People were joining. Programs were buzzing. Children were everywhere. It felt like the sky was the limit. In a few years MPUUC would be named a Breakthrough Congregation!
But as happens in every life, things change. Staff changes. The pandemic changed everything. Pretty soon, after the loss of some beloved leaders, Mission Peak faced some hard moments. A few even secretly admitted they weren’t sure we’d make it.
Now, I’ve been UU all my life. I’ve seen a lot of change, good and bad. But this I know for sure: You can tell a lot more about a community by how it responds to the hard times than how it responds to the easy ones. We become more of who we are deep down. And, as you declared all those years ago, ‘the foundation of Mission Peak is Love.’
Now, maybe we can say it’s because Ariel Smith-Iyer is amazing and brings out so much love and wonder in children, parents and, well… everyone; Maybe we can say Von Bringhurst takes the lid off the joy of singing. Maybe it’s the inspiration of our Worship team; or the brilliance and dedication of the Board; or the vision, commitment and leadership of our Civic Engagement team and our ARO folks.
But, whatever it is, it has now spilled out into the community and is catching the attention of the people in Fremont. The power of our Love is now being felt by a lot more folks. It’s known at City Council meetings coming from all those purple shirted people. It’s felt by the unhoused who feel seen and the agencies supporting them.
Now, more than ever, we’re revealing our message of Love. I’ve noticed and couldn’t be prouder. This coming year, I will be trying harder and giving more than ever because I know the world needs Mission Peak. I hope you’ll join me. Together we can do the great things the world needs.
From your President, Beth Schaefer
Greetings, fellow Mission Peakers,
I love the rainbow theme DeAnna Alm has created for our canvass. Every one of those colorful letters – ROYGBIV – represents a focus point that Mission Peak as a congregation cares about.
R – Reorganizing. We have a new, sleeker vision for Mission Peak’s internal organization and it’s now on paper so we can all see how to best work together. The Board and committee chairs have given it a thumbs up. Take a careful look at the colorful diagram and see how everything fits together.
O – Outreach. Our Outreach program is perhaps in its biggest growth period ever right now, driven in part by frequent Lunch and Learn sessions. Members and staff have been working hard on addressing the recently passed law criminalizing both camping in Fremont and “aiding and abetting” unhoused people – think blessing bags and Sandwich Squad. Our values call us to generosity, recognizing and helping marginalized communities, and working for justice. We’ve spoken out, made a public statement, and now, done something Mission Peak has never done before: joined as plaintiffs in a lawsuit. We expect the public awareness we’re generating to also yield new members. People, housed, unhoused, and on the City Council are recognizing us!
Y – Youngest members. We’re excited that we’ve got more babies and young children than we’ve had in years running around and laughing at recent parties and celebrations. And we now have a beloved monthly Children’s Chapel developed and run by our wonderful Director of Multigenerational Team Building, Ariel Smith-Iyer.
G – Generosity. Now is the time of year that we are asked to pledge financial support. Remember – there is $15,000 in matching support already pledged by generous members, which will triple any increase you make in your pledge from last year!
B – Beloved Community. A place where every person is treated with equal respect and kindness because of their inherent worth and dignity.
I – Individual Improvement. When I came to Mission Peak 20-some years ago, I sought to find my place in the universe and to take a deep dive into becoming a better person. All of us can consider what it is we seek from Mission Peak.
V – Values in Action. The anti-racist/anti-oppression programs we have created and participate in are among the things that put Love at the Center and honor our values. As you consider your pledge to MPUUC for this year, please be as generous as you can.
From your Canvass chair, DeAnna Alm:
Hello Mission Peak UU Members and Friends,
Every year the canvass committee works to remind us all of what Mission Peak UU Congregation gives to us and what it can give to our community. Sometimes we feel tired, or burnt out, or sometimes we just slip into taking this place for granted. I hope that the pulpitorials during Sunday services and the heartfelt letters from our minister and our Board President are helping to remind us all of what a treasure we have here, and how our involvement enriches us spiritually and morally. We aspire to maintain, support and share the rainbow beauty of this very special place.

No matter how great or small your pledge to Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation for the 2025-2026 year, we are grateful for all you do to help us REACH FOR THE RAINBOW!
The Fair Share Guide to Giving
During the annual Canvass Campaign each year, we include the Fair Share Guide to Giving, which is one of the stewardship resources from our denomination, the Unitarian Universalist Association. Moving toward a Fair Share financial commitment, whether quickly or in a steady, intentional way builds community and instills a spirit of personal stewardship. It reminds us all that this is our congregation and our UU movement and that we are together in Beloved Community.
