Project Drawdown Workshops

Jeff Goby of our congregation has delivered six introductory or extended workshops on Project Drawdown to citizens of Union City, Newark, and Fremont. He also attended the first international Drawdown conference at State College, PA, in September 2019.

Project Drawdown is a global research organization that identifies and analyzes the most viable solutions to climate change, and shares these findings with the world. Initiated by 2013, over 200 scientists and scholars worldwide worked on the initial Project Drawdown report. Climate drawdown is the point at which greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere level off and begin to decline on a year-to-year basis. Drawdown is a milestone in reversing climate change, and eventually reducing global average temperatures. If all the measures currently available were implemented immediately, drawdown would occur around 2050.

Jeff plans to offer other Project Drawdown workshops in the future. Contact him at 541-760-4662 or jgoby@hotmail.com

Climate Action, City of Fremont

Erik Alm and Jeff Goby of Mission Peak UU are working with Rachel diFranco, Fremont’s Sustainability Manger, to form a citizen advisory group to influence the shape of the city’s Climate Plan. Currently, the goal is to make Fremont post-carbon by 2040. The draft plan should be available for public review by spring 2020.
