John Buehrens is the Senior Minister of the First UU Society of San Francisco. He is retiring from that post at the end of July after 45 years as a UU minister. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Divinity School, he served congregations in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, and New York City before becoming UUA President from 1993 to 2001. He is the author or co-author of five books about liberal religion, and is presently at work on a sixth, a re-interpretation of Transcendentalist movement.
